After long months of coldness and darkness, flowers finally start to bloom, the trees grow new green… nature comes back to life! The winter despair is over, and we get our energy levels up again! It’s now time to leave the old season behind us and make space for the new! It is time to declutter your life. We need to get rid of the old, unneeded stuff, to make room for new adventures, new goals, new dreams! And that’s not the only benefit of decluttering….here are 5 reasons why you should declutter your life.

1. More space

It can happen very quickly that things start to pile up in our rooms, wardrobes, phones, just… everywhere! This leads to a very stuffed place, and eventually, there is no space left for new things anymore. This leads to thinking that our place is too little and that we just can’t allow ourselves to have more. Also, it leads to feeling unorganized because if there is no space, there aren’t many options to be organized.

When you declutter your life you commit to sorting through the stuff to decide whether you still need all of it, or not. And I am sure you will encounter a lot of things you don’t actually need. Get rid of it. It will relieve you and give you more space to breathe!

2. Gratitude

Through decluttering, you will discover what it is that you actually need, get rid of what you don’t need, and in the end, you will learn to be more grateful for what you have and don’t take it for granted.

When you have less, you make more use of what you have and you learn to appreciate it more. This helps to create an attitude of gratitude, which again helps with your positive mindset.

3. Less stress

As already mentioned above, when your place is cluttered, being organized is not really an option, or at least really hard, which results in a messy place. And what does a messy place often mean? Yes, more stress. Why? Well, you don’t actually want to waste time that you don’t have looking for that one important letter that was lost in a pile of paper, or the one shoe that somehow vanished? Less clutter, less waste of time, less stress. Remember my words next time you look for that one scarf.

4. More control

It is a logical consequence that you have more control over your belongings when you just have…less. It is not so much to overlook, and when you only have one purse, you won’t need to repack your important stuff, nothing will be lost, and you always know where your things must be.

Also, it is less likely that you feel overwhelmed with your life when your place is tidy. Personally, when I feel overwhelmed or out of control, I always start by tidying up my room. It really makes a difference, believe me.

5. Clear mind

Conclusion: Clear space, clear mind. When you have fewer things, you have more space, more control and you appreciate more what you have, which results in a clear and grateful mind. Let’s be honest, we all feel better about ourselves when we have a clean and organized home and workspace, don’t we? So basically, decluttering improves your living standard, and you can be more productive and more focussed during the day.

I hope I could motivate you to start decluttering right now, because it will have tremendous impacts on your overall well-being! What other benefits of decluttering your life can you name? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
